Ethiopian Airlines has opened a five-star hotel at Addis Ababa Bole International airport.

The 97-room Ethiopian Skylight In-Terminal Hotel is connected to Departure Terminal 02, within walking distance of the departure gates.

Construction of the hotel began in December 2020, and a phased opening means that it is initially offering 41 rooms, with a further 56 set to come online next month, along with a restaurant and “other facilities”.

Rooms are split across twin, double and accessible categories, with 12 of them able to be interconnected.

The hotel is attached to the $363 million Chinese-built Terminal 2 at the airport, which opened in 2019.

Ethiopian said that the hotel would “cater to passengers and crews who do not wish to leave the airport for any reason, enabling the airport to provide the most convenient travel experience possible and making it preferable for seamless connections”.

Bookings can currently be made via [email protected], through online platforms including Expedia, booking.com and trip.com, or at Ethiopian Airlines local offices or the Addis Ababa Interline Desk.

Ethiopian recently announced plans to offer a fifth freedom Manchester-Geneva route from the end of October, as part of its Manchester-Geneva-Addis Ababa routing.

Ethiopian Airlines to operate Manchester-Geneva flights

Commenting on the news Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said:

“The extensive Ethiopian network brings millions of passengers through Addis Ababa each year. As a customer-focused airline, we want our passengers to enjoy every minute they spend with us, even their transit hours at the airport.

“The construction of an In-Terminal Hotel takes transit at Addis Ababa to the next level. It addresses the industry’s demand and leads us to plan and create efficient and seamless connectivity to enhance the comfort of passengers.

“We want passengers to depart from their origin city without a single worry about their transit time at Addis Ababa Airport should they choose to stay there as we are waiting for them with a comfortable space where they can freshen up before boarding their next flight.”

The carrier also operates the 373-room Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, located around five minutes’ walk from Addis Ababa airport.
