Ethiopian Airlines has obtained fifth freedom rights to operate flights from Manchester to Addis Ababa via Geneva.

The four-times-weekly service will operate via the Swiss city from October 30, with flight times as follows:

Outward:

Departs Manchester 1850, arrives Geneva 2140

Departs Geneva 2240, arrives Addis Ababa 0730

Return:

Departs Addis Ababa 0115, arrives Geneva 0615

Departs Geneva 0715, arrives Manchester 0805

Passengers flying to the Ethiopian capital will remain on-board the aircraft when stopping in the Swiss city.

Flights will be operated by a B787 Dreamliner, configured with both economy and business class cabins. Lead-in fares between Manchester and Geneva start at £222 return (£522 in business).

The Manchester-Addis Ababa route, which previously served via Brussels, was set to become a non-stop service in July 2020 but this never came to fruition.

Country Manager UK, Michael Yohannes, commented:

“We are excited to announce this new route development. Whilst this new service will provide business and leisure travelers, including the traditional Winter Ski market, based in the region a convenient schedule it also underlines our commitment to provide further connectivity options into the African continent.”
