The New York Marriott Marquis has unveiled the results of its multi-million dollar refurbishment, which includes redesigned guest rooms, public spaces, restaurants and events spaces.

The hotel opened in 1985 on West 46th Street and Broadway, and its redesign has been inspired by Times Square’s billboard lights under the concept of ‘Kaleidoscope of Energy’.

The hotel’s public and event spaces have been redesigned by Stonehill Taylor, while Sawyer and Company led the renovation of the guest rooms and suites.

The eighth-floor lobby features a redesigned space with reception desks at the north side of the hotel, separated by archways made of wood panelling, along with a lit acrylic 3D sculpture by Parachilna on a plinth and Kaleidoscope-inspired NYC artwork by Kalisher.

The hotel’s 1,971 guest rooms have a new modern design, with new features including mounted HD TV’s, larger wardrobes, walk-in showers “with spa-like lighting” and platform beds. As part of Marriott Hotels’ partnership with TED, guests will have access to in-room curated content during their stay.

New York Marriott Marquis has also partnered with the Union Square Hospitality Group and Union Square Events for the three updated restaurants.

Broadway Lounge offers a menu of wood-fired pizzas, snacks and cocktails amid two-storey floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Times Square, and guests can also enjoy the neighbouring Perch outdoor terrace.

On the ninth floor, Revel and Rye Bar and Restaurant offers 20 wines by the glass, an extensive American whiskey list and a New York-themed dining menu. The interiors are inspired by theatre marquees, with a bar fitted with linear piped lighting, a metallic gold ceiling, and two large LED billboards positioned on either side of the restaurant which will broadcast sporting events and movies.

The newly redesigned M Club, meanwhile, features a library, business centre, communal worktables and banquettes, charging stations and a complimentary full buffet breakfast along with a grab-and-go section.

The hotel’s Atrium Greatroom lobby is also open to all guests and features contemporary decor, a breakfast buffet and free wifi.

In terms of meetings and events spaces, the hotel’s ninth floor The Terrace space, which connects the Marquis Ballroom to the Jolson, Cantor and Barrymore Rooms, has been expanded to serve as an additional pre-function event space.

Meeting and event spaces on floors three to seven have newly designed carpets and wall coverings, with Milliken carpet patterns reminiscent of overlapping starbursts and kaleidoscopes.

The Broadway Ballroom also now has a state-of-the-art sound system which extends to the balconies and wings.

Sara Duffy, principal at Stonehill Taylor, added:

“The reflections, flow of energy, and vivacity that encapsulate Times Square were central references for this project.

“We fed off the spirit of the hotel’s surroundings while simultaneously constructing a comfortable, rejuvenating stay for guests. The end result was a design that perfectly balances elegant playfulness and interactive experiences with flexible and varied seating, strategically open yet distinctive zones, and an artful New York theme that carries throughout the hotel.”
