IHG Hotels and Resorts is set to bring its Crowne Plaza brand to Malaysia’s Penang.
The hotel will be developed in partnership with STC Property Management San Bhd and located in its Straits City development – a sustainable high-end mixed-use project on the waterfront of Butterworth Penang.
Straits City is envisioned as a Future City, incorporating green technologies to champion a more sustainably way of living.
The 343-room Crowne Plaza Penang Butterworth Straits City is located a five-minute drive to Penang Sentral and has connectivity to all major roads and highways in the area, including the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.
Rajit Sukumaran, managing director South East Asia and Korea, IHG said:
“We are delighted to partner with STC Property Management to debut the Crowne Plaza brand to Butterworth Penang, and in Butterworth’s scenic coastal area that is undergoing transformation to become the new residential and commercial hub of Penang.”
This is one of ten IHG properties scheduled to open in Malaysia in the next three to five years, including Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu, Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park, and Kimpton Kuala Lumpur.
As it stands, IHG currently operates six hotels under its Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts brands in the country.
IHG also stated that “Asia Pacific will be the future home of more than 75 Crowne Plaza Hotels” including the recently opened property in Vietnam’s Phu Quoc and the 100th property in China – Crowne Plaza Shanghai Hongqiao.
