Minor Hotels has announced plans to open the first Australian property under its Thailand-focused Avani Hotels brand.

Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel will be situated on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, close to Mooloolaba Beach and around 100 km north of Brisbane.

The 180-room new-build property is schedule to open in 2025, and will feature four restaurants, meeting and events facilities, and a rooftop pool, bar, restaurant and wedding venue.

The Avani brand is in fact already present in Australia, but currently only under the Avani Residences offering, with locations in Adelaide, Melbourne and the Gold Coast.

Avani launched in 2011 and currently has over 30 properties, 12 of which are located in Thailand, with the remainder spread across locations including Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal and the UAE.

Recent openings include the Avani Muscat Hotel, located close to the Al Araimi Boulevard Mall and Mall of Muscat.

Avani Muscat Hotel with rooms and residences now open

Minor Hotels describes the Avani brand as “an upbeat and contemporary hotel concept that delivers the perfect balance, with a focus on good sleep, designed social spaces, locally inspired sustenance and friendly service”.

Commenting on the news Dillip Rajakarier, group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, said:

“We have been keen to add an Avani hotel into our Australian portfolio for some time and have been scouting for a first-class location. We feel confident this property ticks all the boxes for travellers seeking the upscale, contemporary experience offered by our international Avani Hotels and Resorts, and we expect it will be extremely well received within the Australian market.”

“We were fortunate to work with Kenneth Wagner from KPAT to develop our Oaks Toowoomba Hotel, which opened in 2020, so we are excited to watch that team bring Australia’s first Avani hotel concept to life in such an exceptional location.”
