Easyjet has confirmed an order for 56 additional A320 neo Family aircraft, with deliveries due between FY 2026 and FY 2029.
The order was first announced by the carrier last month but required shareholder approval which has now been obtained.
As part of the agreement Easyjet will convert 18 A320 neo deliveries (planned between FY 2024 and FY 2027) into larger A321 neo aircraft – the carrier first took delivery of the 235-seat aircraft in 2018.
The A320 and A321 neos will continue Easyjet’s fleet, replacing the 156-seat A319s, and older 180-seat and 186-seat A320s.
Easyjet is the world’s largest operator of Airbus’ single-aisle aircraft, with over 300 planes currently in service.
Christian Scherer, chief commercial cfficer and head of Airbus International, said that Easyjet had “democratised flying for millions of travellers and we are delighted this latest agreement for 56 A320 neo Family aircraft not only future proofs its growth as traffic rebounds, but also lays the foundations for its sustainability journey”.
Meanwhile Kenton Jarvis, Easyjet’s CEO , said that The new aircraft are aligned with Easyjet’s sustainability strategy, with the adoption of the more efficient new technology aircraft being a core component of Easyjet’s path to net zero emissions”.
