Hyatt has announced plans to reflag the existing Winston Hotel in Johannesburg under its Park Hyatt brand.
The 30-room property will join Hyatt’s portfolio as an affiliated hotel, before being refurbished and rebranded as the Park Hyatt Johannesburg in 2023.
The renovation works will be overseen by design duo Yabu Pushelberg (responsible for the Pan Pacific London), with features including “an atmospheric bar with an open-air courtyard”, as well as a dining space with outdoor terrace which overlooks the property’s swimming pool.

Winston Hotel is located in Johannesburg’s Rosebank district, close to Gautrain station and less than a mile from the recently opened Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank.
The reflagging will in fact mark the reintroduction of the Park Hyatt brand in South Africa – the original Park Hyatt Johannesburg was rebranded as the Hyatt Regency Johannesburg in 2007.
There are currently four Hyatt-branded properties in South Africa – the Hyatt Regency Cape Town, Hyatt House Johannesburg Rosebank, Hyatt House Johannesburg Sandton and Hyatt Regency Johannesburg.
Commenting on the news Ludwig Bouldoukian, Regional Vice President Development Middle East Africa for Hyatt International, said
“We are delighted to continue building on our relationship with the Millat Group and add Park Hyatt Johannesburg to Hyatt’s growing collection of luxury properties throughout the African continent.
“Park Hyatt hotels are found in the world’s most premier destinations and this development in Rosebank demonstrates a commitment to catering to both domestic and international high-end travellers who are looking for an oasis of calm and refinement, highly attentive personal service and elevated experiences in an intimate environment, while still enjoying the vibrancy of Johannesburg.”
