German-based The Amano Group has opened its first international outpost in London, with a property located in Covent Garden.

The group currently has ten hotels in Germany, eight of which are in Berlin, with an additional hotel in Munich and Dusseldorf.

The London property is located in a former 1980s office building, known as Drury House, on the corner of Russell Street and Drury Lane. The 141-room hotel features design by London-based studio Woods Bagot, which includes earth tones, dark accents and golden elements.

Rooms are split into Cosy, Comfy or Roomy categories, while five ‘Goldy’ rooms include freestanding gold bathtubs and views over Covent Garden.

The hotel has a rooftop bar and terrace on the 7th floor, which offers cocktails and bar snacks, and there’s a basement bar with DJ sets on weekends.

The property will be joined by Penelope’s this autumn, a ground-floor restaurant which offers a fusion of Israeli and Spanish cuisine from the group’s culinary director Ronen Dovrat Bloch.

Ariel Schiff, co-founder of the group, commented:

“As a Berlin-based company, opening our first international property in London was always a natural step for us. Like Berlin, London is a dynamic city known for its thriving nightlife and multicultural community. We felt the spirit of the AMANO brand would blend in well here. We’re excited to open our hotel to guests and offer a unique hotel and leisure experience, bringing a taste of Berlin to London.”

The group plans to open additional hotels in Leipzig, Hamburg and Munich. The Leipzig property will include 274 rooms and 50 apartments as well as a bar, restaurant, sky bar, roof terrace and a large conference centre.
