Hilton has opened its first Canopy by Hilton property in downtown New Orleans.
The 176-room hotel is a renovation of the former Oil and Gas Building on Tulane Avenue, which was built in 1959 and designed by August Perez and Associates and Edward B Silverstein and Associates.
The 16-storey skyscraper was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 for its use of glass, steel and abstract geometry, and now houses the Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown.
Located a ten-minute walk to the French Quarter, the property includes a Creole and Cantonese-inspired restaurant, a transfer lounge for guests arriving early or leaving late, 1,700 sqm of meeting space including access to a private patio, and complimentary bikes to explore the city.
Rooms include Nespresso coffee machines, Apivita bath amenities and local extras, and team members can also schedule a city tour for guests.
On-site restaurant Ginger Roux is led by Chef Jonathan Hostetler and offers a menu including dishes such as crawfish boil fried rice and gumbo dumplings as well as cocktails such as the vodka-based Szechuan Fashioned and gin-based Purple Reign. Meanwhile The Herbalist bar offers cocktails, gourmet coffee and espresso drinks, loose-leaf teas, freshly squeezed juices and pastries.

The Canopy by Hilton brand was launched in 2014, and there are currently 35 Canopy hotels open worldwide, with 28 additional properties under development including a dual-branded Canopy by Hilton and Homewood Suites property in Nashville.
