Paris’ seventh arrondissement will welcome new luxury hotel Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain on April 1.

The former Le Saint hotel from Chevalier Paris has undergone a two-year refurbishment and will reopen next week under a new name inspired by its sister properties, the Pavillon de la Reine on the Place des Vosges and the Pavillon des Lettres opposite the Elysée.

The design-led boutique hotel is located across three buildings on Rue du Pré-aux-Clercs in the city’s neighbourhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Interior design by Didier Benderli reflects the Left Bank’s literary, artistic and musical surroundings.

The three buildings date back to 1642 and were originally built for Sieur Jean Tambonneau, the President of the Chambre des Comptes, and have hosted the likes of James Joyce and TS Eliot in the past.

The hotel includes 47 rooms and suites, an indoor swimming pool, a spa, the James Joyce Bar and restaurant Les Parisiens from award-winning Chef Thibault Sombardier. There is also a library at the centre of the property which includes nooks for reading or relaxation, wood-panelled walls, thick rugs and shelves lined with copies of Gallimard foreign literature.

Design features include solid oak herringbone parquet flooring, in-room TVs concealed as decorative mirrors, and traditional windows overlooking the Parisian rooftops. Bathrooms feature terrazzo flooring, marble wall panels decorated with geometric Art Deco detailing and wood and brass fittings.

The restaurant offers menus showcasing locally sourced seasonal produce, while the adjacent James Joyce Bar serves signature cocktails inspired by the writer’s works and the area amid plush sofas and armchairs in midnight blue and powder pink velvet.

Cocktails include ‘Bloom like a Geisha’, named after Ulysses’ protagonist Leopold Bloom, and ‘Suspended Garden’ which pays homage to the Pont des Arts which was originally conceived as a hanging garden.

The hotel’s spa features a meditation room, hammam, plunge pool with water jets, fitness room and two massage cabins, along with a treatment menu developed in partnership with CODAGE Paris.

Chevalier Paris is a French boutique hotel group which comprises three other properties in Paris: Le Pavillon de la Reine, Pavillon des Lettres and Le Petit Moulin.
