German budget hotel chain Motel One has opened its third Manchester property, with the unveiling of the Motel One Manchester St Peter’s Square.

The hotel’s 228 rooms feature smart TVs, air conditioning, “high-quality box-spring beds”, rain dance showers and reclining leather armchairs.

Design has been inspired its proximity to Manchester Central Library, with a portrait gallery of English authors and antique books integrated into the surface of the wall in the lobby area, and book-shaped inspired furnishings including lamps and wallpaper.

The bar and lounge area also has nods to the city’s Rylands Library, with large arches, abstract bookshelves and room dividers with inset panes of stained glass.

Motel One Manchester St Peter’s Square joins existing Manchester properties under the brand in the Piccadilly and Royal Exchange areas, with other UK locations including Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Newcastle. The group now operates a total of 2,194 rooms across the UK.

Motel One launched in 2000 with budget hotels located close to German motorways, but has steadily expanded its portfolio to around 75 hotels across Europe.

The group recently announced plans to add its first US property, following an agreement with Union Investment to take over operation of a former Courtyard by Marriott hotel in New York.

Commenting on the opening Stefan Lenze, Co-CEO at Motel One, said:

“After a challenging two years for the industry it’s great to see many visitors at Motel One and we’re proud to be in a position to be opening another new hotel in the UK.

“Each of our hotels is inspired by the local area, and Motel One Manchester St Peter’s Square is no different. Our bar and lounge area is inspired by the 19th-century John Rylands Library. We look forward to inviting literary and design lovers to sit back and relax with a good book or enjoy a local gin tonic from our exclusive gin menu.

“We’ve worked with local designers where possible and would like to thank Property Alliance Group for their help to bring this exciting new hotel to life.”
