IHG Hotels and Resorts is accelerating its growth of its Crowne Plaza brand across Asia Pacific.

The Asia Pacific region already counts over 160 hotels under the premium brand, with the hotel group planning to open an additional 74 hotels in the coming years.

This comes after the opening of the Crowne Plaza Phu Quoc Starbay in December 2021, which features 308 rooms, suites and villas in Vietnam’s Phu Quoc. The opening included the brand’s debut of its ‘Plaza Workspace’ product in Southeast Asia.

Forthcoming openings include hotels in Vietnam, Thailand and Australia, along with the brand’s debut in Malaysia.

Highlighted openings include:

Crowne Plaza Vinh Yen City Centre, Vietnam

The 170-room hotel located in the capital of Vinh Phuc Province, Vinh Yen, will open this year and will be the first upscale international hotel in the region according to IHG. It will be ideally located for business travellers visiting the industrial province, and close to must-visit destinations such as Tam Dao National Park.

Crowne Plaza Bangkok Grand Sukhumvit, Thailand

This rebranded hotel will be the largest Crowne Plaza hotel in Thailand when it reopens this year following an extensive refurbishment. It will feature 514 rooms and a ‘Plaza Workspace’.

Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton, Australia

Set to open in 2023, Melbourne’s second Crowne Plaza hotel will offer 107 rooms in a location overlooking Lincoln Square within walking distance of Queen Victoria market.

Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu Waterfront, Malaysia

This 367-room hotel opening in 2023 will mark the debut of the Crowne Plaza brand in Malaysia, and will be part of a mixed-use development at a waterfront location.

Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Malaysia

The 318-room hotel will open in 2023 close to the city’s central business district, and within walking distance of the Petronas Twin Towers. The property will include access to a fully-equipped business centre and versatile meeting spaces.

Crowne Plaza Bangkok Rama 9, Thailand

The hotel will open in 2025 in the mixed-used development, Siamese Rama 9, which will also feature high end apartments, office space and a mall. The hotel will also offer the ‘Plaza Workspace’.

Crowne Plaza Danang Ba Na Hills, Vietnam

Finally, this 602-room hotel opening in 2026 will be built as part of the ongoing development for Ba Na Hills Entertainment Complex. The phase two expansion plan will include two other IHG-managed hotels: Holiday Inn Resort Danang Ba Na Hills and Voco Danang Ba Na Hills, and new facilities will include an amphitheatre and retail podium.

Serena Lim, VP Development, Southeast Asia and Korea, IHG said:

“Crowne Plaza is renowned throughout the world as the perfect brand for balancing work and life. It’s fantastic that it’s now growing rapidly in Asia Pacific, where we’re seeing wide-ranging interest from owners seeking a brand that meets the needs of the modern business traveller.

“The forthcoming Crowne Plaza properties in Vietnam, Thailand and Australia – as well as our intention to introduce the brand in countries such as Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu – shows its all-round appeal in city, industrial and resort locations.”

The expansion of the brand follows the opening of the 100th property under the brand in China, Crowne Plaza Shanghai Hongqiao, and four openings in Australia across Sydney, Adelaide and Tasmania. The portfolio also includes Crowne Plaza Changi airport, Crowne Plaza Paris – Republique, and Crowne Plaza Hamburg.

The Crowne Plaza brand has over 400 hotels around the world, and over 90 in the pipeline.
