IHG Hotels and Resorts has opened its first Intercontinental property in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

The 351-room Intercontinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort and Spa is situated on the shoreline of Hayat Island, and features an infinity pool, Club Intercontinental Lounge, fitness centre and outdoor tennis courts.

There are a total of six dining outlets, including NoHo, “inspired by the artistic streets of North Houston in New York”, and Levant and Nar, which has a terrace area and offers “Levant-influenced delicacies with a modern twist, featuring an open kitchen that emanates aromatic seasonings and spices”.

A spa is also set to open in April, with features including a traditional Turkish Hammam, and the hotel offers a total of 1,000 sqm of meeting and events space, including a 360 sqm ballroom.

The hotel will be the first IHG-branded property in Ras Al Khaimah – the group’s website lists the Six Senses Zighy Bay on Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, and the Intercontinental Fujairah Resort as two IHG properties in the region, and IHG also operates numerous hotels in Dubai.

Commenting on the news Haitham Mattar, managing director India, Middle East and Africa, said:

“Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts have been pioneering luxury travel in new destinations for over 75 years and the undiscovered destination of Ras Al Khaimah couldn’t be more perfect for a new, best-in-class InterContinental resort.

“Ras Al Khaimah’s reputation has grown internationally and has put the Emirate on the world travel map. Its focus on heritage, cultural and adventure activities has a strong appeal to domestic and also international visitors.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to this exquisite property and offer a level of bespoke hospitality that is befitting of the region”.

Wynn Resorts recently announced plans to open a 1,000+ room hotel on the man-made Al Marjan Island, 15 minutes from Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and 45 minutes from Dubai International.
