Barclaycard has launched two new Mastercard credit cards in partnership with Avios.

The fee-free Barclaycard Avios card offers new customers 5,000 bonus Avios when they spend £1,000 in the first three months, plus one Avios for every £1 spent on the card.

Meanwhile the Barclaycard Avios Plus card has a monthly fee of £20, and offers 25,000 welcome Avios when cardholders spend £3,000 in the first three months, plus 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent.

With the standard card, customers will receive a British Airways cabin upgrade voucher to use on an Avios Reward Flight booking when spending £20,000 on the card within 12 months, while with the Plus card this benefit will be received after £10,000 expenditure.

Holders of each card will also receive up to five months of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News+ and Apple Arcade for free.

More information on both cards can be seen here.

The cards will go head-to-head with the established British Airways Amex cards, which also offer Avios welcome bonuses and points on spending. New customers of these cards can currently get up to 40,000 welcome Avios, although the deal ends today (February 28, 2022).

The new Barclaycard Avios cards are part of an ongoing partnership between Barclays and the loyalty currency – last year Barclays launched a new benefit enabling its Premier Banking and Wealth customers to receive 1,500 Avios per month, plus an annual British Airways return flight cabin upgrade voucher.

Commenting on the launch of the new Avios credit cards, José Carvalho, head of consumer products, Barclays, said:

“With Brits itching to go on holiday after almost two years of restrictions, we’re delighted to be launching two new cards that will help customers get away more often, to see the people and places that matter most.”

“As value-for-money continues to be front-of-mind in 2022, our partnership with IAG Loyalty will help customers maximise the value they get from their everyday spending, enhancing their overall travel experience and make that much longed-for trip a reality.”
