British Airways has suspended flights to Moscow, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and “the confirmation of Russian government restrictions”.

The carrier will also stop using Russian airspace, which it said “may lead to longer flight times” due to the rerouting of some services.

Moscow has been BA’s only Russian destination since it dropped flights to St Petersburg back in 2019. The airline had been offering a thrice-weekly service to Moscow.

The statement reads:

“We have suspended our flights to Moscow and also the use of Russian airspace, following the confirmation of Russian government restrictions.

“We apologise for the inconvenience but this is clearly a matter beyond our control. We are notifying customers on cancelled services and are offering a full refund.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

BA also stressed that “We do not operate to Ukraine and haven’t for a number of years, and we do not use Ukrainian airspace”.

Ukraine’s state air traffic services yesterday closed the country’s airspace to all civilian flights, following Russia’s invasion – earlier in the week many carrier’s had begun suspending flights to and from Ukraine, as can be seen on this forum thread.
