Hyatt is set to open its first property under its lifestyle brand Thompson Hotels in Spain.

The 175-room Thompson Madrid is expected to open in mid-2022 in Madrid’s Golden Mile, close to the Puerta del Sol and the Gran Via street.

The hotel’s 152 rooms and 23 suites will include balconies and terraces with city views and “fashion-forward art and style”. Facilities will include three dining outlets managed by Grupo La Ancha, including a rooftop bar and restaurant and a speakeasy-style venue, event spaces, an open-air courtyard and a fitness centre.

The rooftop will also include an outdoor pool, a “hilltop residential style bar” and a day club.

Peter Norman, senior vice president development EAME and SWA at Hyatt, commented:

“We are honored to work with Exacorp One S.L. to welcome the Thompson Hotels brand to Spain, a sought-after market of today’s leisure travelers. Thompson Madrid will become a remarkable property in the heart of the city, where culture is celebrated and everyone who walks through the doors feels more like a resident than a guest.

“These plans for Thompson Madrid come at a time of significant growth for the Thompson Hotels brand, largely fueled by leisure travel demand, offering a luxurious, evocative collection of boutique hotels, synonymous with highly distinct services and experiences that cater to the high-end traveler.”

This will mark the third Hyatt-branded hotel in the city, joining its existing Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid and Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid.

Thompson Hotels joined Hyatt in 2019, following the group’s purchase of lifestyle hotel management company Two Roads Hospitality. The lifestyle brand also joined the World of Hyatt loyalty programme in March 2019.
