Qatar Airways plans to adopt Avios as its reward currency for its Privilege Club, dropping its existing Qmiles currency.

The airline will transition to Avios “by the end of March”, with members seeing their existing Qmiles balance automatically converted into Avios on a 1:1 basis.

Privilege Club members will be able to collect and spend Avios in the same way they did with Qmiles, and “will receive additional information directly to their nominated email addresses”.

The amount of Avios required to book an award ticket will not differ to the amount of Qmiles previously required. Additionally, there will be no change in the expiration date with the transition to Avios. The airline’s Qpoints and Qcredits will also remain unchanged.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, commented:

“The transition from Qmiles to Avios marks a ground-breaking new era for Privilege Club, enabling our loyal members to participate in the most compelling loyalty network and the largest portfolio of partners in the industry.”

For further information, see the airline’s Avios page here.

Avios is currently the reward currency for loyalty programmes with carriers including British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling.
