Air Canada has expanded its summer schedule, resuming routes to 34 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Starting next month, the airline is restoring service to popular European destinations including Barcelona, Budapest, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan and Venice, routes which have been suspended since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
Nonstop services will also resume from Toronto to Tel Aviv, Paris, Tokyo and Amsterdam, as well as service from Montreal to Casablanca, Nice, Algiers, Rome, Tel Aviv and Tokyo. Air Canada will also fly from Vancouver to Frankfurt, Dublin and Zurich.
Some of these routes will be running year-round (see asterisk below) while others will be seasonal.
Mark Galardo, senior vice president, network planning and revenue management at Air Canada, commented:
“This is very exciting news for our customers especially now that Omicron is behind us, countries are reopening and border measures are being eased around the world for fully vaccinated travellers. Air Canada’s recovery is well underway and gaining strength, and we are pleased to expand our international network across four continents as we respond to pent-up demand.
“Our vast and growing network has been built to conveniently increase connectivity to and from global destinations through our Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver hubs. Combined with the networks of our Joint Venture and Star Alliance partners, we can offer customers easy access to virtually any destination in the world.”
Air Canada also announced its expansion in the North American market today, with the arrival of seven new routes this summer and the resumption of 41 previously suspended routes. New services to the US will include Montreal to Atlanta and Detroit (June 1), Toronto to Salt Lake City (June 2), and Vancouver to Austin (June 1).
Within Canada, three new routes will begin between Montreal and Gander (June 25), Calgary and Fort St John (May 1), and Vancouver and Halifax (May 1). The routes have been timed to connect with the carrier’s domestic, US and international network at its hubs in Canada.
Canada is set to ease Covid-19 testing requirements for fully vaccinated travellers from February 28, requiring only rapid antigen tests rather than PCR tests to enter the country.
