Qatar Airways has officially unveiled one of its B777 aircraft painted in a special retro livery, as part of the carrier’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The airline in fact began operations in early 1994, but considers 2022 to be its 25th birthday as the carrier was relaunched in 1997 under the mandate of His Highness The Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Flights to London also commenced that year.

The B777 – which Qatar Airways said “showcases a nostalgic reminder of its iconic early aircraft livery” – debuted on flight QR0041 from Doha to Paris CDG, and has also visited Manchester as can be seen in this tweet.

The airline said that the aircraft would become “a familiar sight on a variety of other Qatar Airways routes over the coming 12 months, celebrating 25 years of excellence for the award-winning airline during its milestone year”.

Commenting on the news Qatar Airways group CEO Akbar Al Baker, said:

“We are tremendously excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary by introducing this unique aircraft to our fleet.

“We hope this retro design will bring many memories of travel to our passengers, especially those who experienced travelling with us in our early years.”

In other news, Qatar Airways has launched a promotion for its Privilege Club members, offering 25 per cent off fares to selected destinations including Maldives, Seychelles and Zanzibar.
