Wizz Air has outlined plans to expand its services at Gatwick airport, with four new routes and increased frequencies on other services.

In December the carrier announced it had acquired 15 daily slot pairs at Gatwick from Norwegian, allowing it to launch 14 new routes to Faro, Palma, Larnaca, Catania, Podgorica, Tel Aviv, Chania, Mykonos, Funchal, Milan, Rome, Vienna, Bari and Naple.

These will now be joined by services to Palermo and Venice starting from late March, followed by flights to Burgas and Varna in Bulgaria from mid-June. Full details on the launch dates, operating days and from fares for these routes can be seen in the table below.

In addition Wizz Air says it will increase the frequency of its recently-announced flights to Larnaca, Milan and Vienna, from daily to twice daily “on most days”.

In total the carrier plans to operate 25 routes from Gatwick for the summer 2022 season. The airline also said that the government’s recent decision to scrap arrivals testing for fully-vaccinated travellers “marks a major step forward for the travel industry and has the potential to be a great opportunity for UK aviation to really get back on its feet”.

Commenting on the news Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said:

“Today marks another important step in our continued expansion at Gatwick, following the announcement of our acquisition of new slots at the airport.

“We have continued to call for the full reinstatement of the original 80:20 slot usage rules and welcome the Government’s recent decision to adjust the ratio to 70:30, so we can continue to take up new market opportunities and provide even more low-fare opportunities for our customers, supporting the recovery of the aviation sector, associated industries, and local economies.

“The lifting of Covid travel restrictions for fully vaccinated passengers arriving in the UK is a positive development for the travel industry, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more customers onboard our green aircraft for their well-deserved holidays in 2022 and beyond.”
