Swissport has announced plans to open its first Aspire lounge in Asia.

The facility at Tokyo Narita International’s Terminal 2 is expected in early summer, and will be inspired by “the nature and traditions of Japan”.

The 770 sqm lounge will offer seating for 148 guests, with facilities including a relaxation room, office space, showers, buffet dining and a bar.

According to Swissport the lounge will be designed “to support guests in finding their ‘wagaya'” – a Japanese word meaning ‘one’s own home’ – with features including “large windows allowing extensive natural light, aromatic oils, plants, and nature sounds”.

Swissport currently operates around 60 lounges at 35 airports worldwide, with forthcoming facilities at Kilimanjaro and Ontario airports, as well as a second location at Perth airport.

Last year the group entered into a joint venture with Collinson subsidiary Airport Dimensions to acquire the No1 Lounges brand.

Commenting on the news Brad Moore, Swissport’s managing director for APAC, said:

“We are extremely proud to enter the Asian market and further expand our Asia Pacific footprint with the stunning new lounge we are creating at Narita Airport.

“We are blending modern, sharp design with traditional Japanese style and beauty to create a truly welcoming and relaxing airport lounge experience.

“Swissport is delighted to bring its award-winning lounge business to Japan, and we look forward to providing the ultimate experience for our guests.”
