Marriott has opened a new Autograph Collection hotel in Houston with the rebranding and renovation of the Hotel Alessandra.
Located in Houston’s central business district, the Laura Hotel has 223 rooms with both modern and art-deco design, and a new restaurant, Hull & Oak Southern Kitchen, “focused on innovative twists on classic Southern dishes”.
The bar serves bespoke craft beers from Houston breweries and seasonal cocktails such as ‘Smokin’ in the 713’ – a southern take on the Old Fashioned served in a smoked glass on a cedar plank. The hotel has a rooftop pool, a fitness centre and access to Lifetime Fitness, located next to the hotel. The full service salon opens later this year.
The new name of the hotel is from the steamship that took Augustus Chapman Allen and John K. Allen, founders of Houston, to the site of the new capital and the design of the restaurant , to the site of the new capital.
“The Laura Hotel, Autograph Collection will become an instant favourite in downtown Houston, and we are delighted to welcome guests to experience what’s new,” said Charley Morales, general manager of The Laura Hotel, Autograph Collection. “Much like when the steamship Laura made its way through Buffalo Bayou to open up a world of possibilities at the founding of modern-day Houston, today’s The Laura Hotel, Autograph Collection is the backdrop for business and personal adventures. We look forward to visitors and locals embracing our warm hospitality and upscale service and using that hotel as the launch point for exploring the great city of Houston.”
The new hotel joins Hotel Icon in Houston, also an Autograph Collection Hotel. There are now over 240 independent hotels in 41 countries in the Autograph Collection.
