Marriott has announced plans to debut its W Hotels brand in the Chinese special administrative region of Macau.

The agreement Melco Resorts and Entertainment will see the property open as stage 2 of the Studio City multi-development complex, which also offers indoor and outdoor water parks, cineplexes and MICE facilities.

The 557-room W Macau – Studio City is scheduled to open in December 2022, and will feature a spa, fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, and two dining venues – one offering international cuisine “with an Asian twist”, and the other serving Chinese and Portuguese dishes.

There will be 1,100 sqm of meeting and events space, and the property will also be the first W hotel in the Greater China region to offer the brand’s signature W Sound Suite – an onsite recording studio and bar.

Commenting on the news Henry Lee, president, Greater China, Marriott International, said:

“Macau’s super-charged energy and unique identity as an entertainment hub, together with its mix of Eastern and Western culture, makes it a natural fit for W Hotels.

“In line with Marriott International’s ‘Brand + Destination’ development strategy, we are excited to work together with Melco Resorts and Entertainment to introduce W Macau – Studio City and bring the brand’s luxury lifestyle to Macau.”

W Macau will be the tenth property under the brand in Greater China, following the recent opening of W Xiamen in the city’s East Business District, and the unveiling of the first W hotel in central China, located in the city of Changsha.
