Marriott is revamping its Courtyard brand in North America, with hundreds of hotels set to undergo renovations to suit the “next-gen traveller”.

More than 375 of the brand’s earliest generation hotels in the US and Canada are expected to be modernised with exterior renovations by 2024, featuring prominent displays of the refreshed Courtyard logo.

The renovations will include a new façade “inspired by an elegant and minimal aesthetic” featuring a redesigned porte-cochere, reframed and retained exterior surfaces, wood tones and gray hues, ambient lighting, new signage and landscape planting which creates an open and unobstructed view of the property.

Many hotels are also set to feature new sleek and sophisticated interior design in their public spaces and guest rooms. An urban-inspired lobby will include individual check-in desks, warm wooden textures and modern light fixtures.

The lobby will also include a large communal table and semi-private media pods fitted with their own TV screens and a sectional sofa. Additional seating will be located at the back of the lobby with large windows offering views of the outdoor courtyard complete with firepits.

The Bistro Bar will feature a recently revamped menu with classic-inspired breakfast and evening items, and a wide selection of beer, premium wine and speciality cocktails at participating hotels. Meanwhile, the all-day Crate market will offer premium snacks, sandwiches and salads, and retail items.

The newly-designed rooms feature solid colours with a warm and neutral palette, and a modern platform bed with a plush upholstered headboard, illuminated by cove lighting that can be dimmed in-bed. There will also be a sofa with an accompanying ottoman which can fold out into a full-sized bed, a ‘valet station’ with a fridge and coffeemaker, and a 55-inch TV screen that can be pulled out and swivelled to provide optimal viewing from the bed or sofa.

Participating hotels will also equip rooms with electronic locks, allowing guests to enter via a digital room key through the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app. The fitness centres will also be enhanced to include dedicated weightlifting and stretching areas, and a hydration station.

Over 60 hotels have already been completed and the new and renovated properties include Courtyard Jacksonville Butler Boulevard, Courtyard Atlanta Perimeter Center, Courtyard San Diego Miramar, Courtyard Raleigh/Cary Crossroads, and Courtyard Memphis East/Galleria.

Diane Mayer, Vice President and Global Brand Leader, Classic Select Brands, commented:

“Over 38 years ago, Courtyard was the first hotel brand specifically for business travelers. Our new design strategy builds on that Courtyard legacy in ways that are perfectly suited for both leisure and business travelers.

“As the pioneer amongst select service brands, Courtyard continues to adapt to the changing ways that guests live, work, and play through thoughtful innovation to provide the best possible guest experience.”
