The Global Hotel Alliance loyalty programme, Discovery, has relaunched with three new features for its 11 million members.

The new features are:

  1. the introduction of a digital rewards currency, the Discovery Dollar (D$), which members can earn from day one during their stay. At check-out, D$ earned on previous stays can be used towards the hotel room, room upgrades, dining, spa treatments, or other extras. Members can earn D$ from the first day of joining, and the percentage earned on eligible spend increases with membership tier status, starting at 4 per cent and rising to 7 per cent.
  2. extended membership levels (silver, gold, platinum and titanium) which are easier to achieve thanks to more flexible criteria. Titanium members can share their status with one other.
  3. a new “Live Local” offer which enables members to take advantage of their status even when not staying at one of the hotels and also spend their Discovery Dollars . This would allow members to access a hotel’s own private beach (where available), fitness centre, pool or simply reduced prices on meals or spa treatments. Tailor-made experiences are also offered, from cultural events and courses to expeditions into nature.

The Global Hotel Alliance currently has over 500 hotels in 85 countries and is intending to expand to more than 800 properties worldwide by early 2022 with the addition of NH Hotel Group and its 360 hotels.

For the relaunch, US$1 per booking between December 8 and 31, 2021 via the GHA Discovery website or app will be donated to charities supported by the alliance’s brands in the areas of education for children, healthcare, social projects, the environment and animal welfare.

To receive a year’s complimentary platinum membership in GHA Discovery, simply join The Club by Business Traveller (and take advantage of a complimentary subscription to Business Traveller at a 45 per cent discount).
