Marriott Hotels has opened a new property in the Australian city of Melbourne, located on the Docklands waterfront.

Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands features 189 rooms and is located in The District Docklands area on Waterfront Way, minutes from the city centre. The highlight of the hotel is its 28-metre year-round rooftop infinity pool, which promises panoramic views across Melbourne’s CBD skyline, Bolte Bridge, Port Philip Bay and Hobsons Bay.

The ‘petal’-shaped hotel has been designed by DKO Architecture and draws inspiration from the aerodynamic contours of yachts in the city’s harbour, with a curved façade providing views over the water, city, skyline and Bolte Bridge.

The lobby area features polished brass golden chains suspended in sweeping parabolas by Australian sculptor Alexander Knox, which are designed to resemble ruched forms of cinched sailcloth.

Rooms are spacious and feature natural light, a 55-inch LCD TV, an open wardrobe, a working area, a walk-in shower and a curated ‘Made in Melbourne’ minibar. Guests will also be able to watch TED talks thanks to a partnership with the media company.

Dining venues include refined restaurant Archer’s, located within a vaulted cellar-esque ceiling, which offers Australian cuisine with produce from local farms; lobby bar Ada’s whose light snacks, soft drinks and cocktails “pay homage to yesteryear, with a modern twist”; coffee shop Corsia which serves coffee from St Ali and a European-inspired menu of light meals, followed by espresso martinis by night; and the west-facing bar and restaurant Sunset House, located adjacent to the rooftop pool.

The hotel also features a fitness centre which includes state-of-the-art Technogym equipment and access to a wide range of content and entertainment options such as Netflix.

Elsewhere, the property hosts the first exclusive M Club executive lounge in Australia which is open to Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elite Marriott Bonvoy members and guests who stay on executive floors. Benefits include complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails, plus the chance to use the adjoining outdoor terrace.

There is over 370 sqm of event space, including five function and meeting spaces.

Manny Rappenecker, Vice President and Global Brand Leader of Marriott Hotels, commented:

“We are excited to open the first Marriott Hotels property in Australia in 20 years. The opening of Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands marks the seventh property within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio in Melbourne and the 27th property in the country, providing more opportunities for inspiring connections and moments of self-discovery around the world.

“As we see the growing demand for all types of travel, we look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy an all-encompassing Melbourne experience at this beautiful urban oasis.”
