American Airlines has announced plans for a new Admirals Club lounge at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Located close to the airport’s gate 14, it will be the largest lounge at the airport, measuring over 15,000 square feet and with seating for more than 250 guests.

Construction is expected to begin next year, with design inspiration taken from the city of Austin, “reflecting the urban fabric of Rainey Street, Austin Parks, local art and music”. There are also plans for guests to be entertained by music from local musicians.

American’s existing lounge at Austin airport will remain open while the new facility is being constructed, and the carrier said that more information, including the scheduled opening date, will be shared in due course.

AA has been steadily expanding at Austin, adding more than 25 new nonstop routes to and from the airport over the last year.

Commenting on the news Clarissa Sebastian, managing director of premium customer experience and onboard products, said:

“Austin has such a unique energy, with its fascinating mix of technology and arts. American wants to create a club that reflects that eclectic style and pays homage to the lively music scene.

“We can’t wait for customers to experience the new space, with much more room to relax, unwind and enjoy.”

American has gradually been reopening its Admirals Club and Flagship lounges this autumn following the easing of travel restrictions.
