Melia Hotels International is set to open its first luxury hotel in Barcelona under its ME brand.

The new-build ME Barcelona will open on November 25 on the Passeig de Gracia and feature 164 rooms and suites over 14 floors. The hotel features architectural work by Barcelona studio Fitarq and interior design from Mur Arquitectos and Ash.

The interior design of rooms will feature natural tones with yellow hues, clean lines and large windows, along with bright translucent bathrooms, plus bespoke pieces such as decorative glass bottles made by Josep Ma Jujol, Gaudi’s close collaborator.

Meanwhile, the illuminated hallway signs pay homage to Barcelona-based architect Barba Corsini who designed the apartments in las golfas of Gaudi’s La Pedrera in the 1960s.

Rooms and public spaces will also include city-inspired pieces by designers including Ronan and Ewan Bouroullec, Patricia Urquiola and Jaime Hayon.

The hotel will also house a 1,200 sqm rooftop patio and pool on the eighth floor with skyline views of Placa Catalunya and La Sagrada Familia, a fitness centre with Technogym equipment, and a spa in collaboration with Egoiste Spa founder Manuel de la Garza.

Dining venues will include the Terranal restaurant, offering dishes with local produce, Italian restaurant Fasto, and cocktail bar Luma.

On the sustainability side, the hotel will have auto-sufficient energy and renewable sources, with solar panels providing the hotel’s energy.

Alba Bustamante, Global Brand Marketing Director of ME by Melia, commented:

“ME Barcelona represents a step forward for ME by Melia, along with recent major openings such as the stunning ME Dubai, the work of the late architect Zaha Hadid, and the exotic ME Cabo. All these hotels have consolidated, at an international level, the new definition of contemporary luxury close to the art and culture of the brand.”

There are currently seven hotels in the ME portfolio in Dubai, Milan, London, Ibiza, Madrid, Sitges and Cabo. Melia Hotels International operates over 380 hotels in more than 40 countries.
