Today sees the long-awaited debut of Hilton’s lifestyle Canopy brand in London.
The 340-room Canopy by Hilton London City has finally opened within the Minories development close to Aldgate Underground station.
Business Traveller first reported on the property back in March 2016, and it had originally been scheduled to open in 2018, but several delays pushed back the unveiling by some three years.
General manager Beatriz Orta posted the following on LinkedIn yesterday:
“And we are finally here! Canopy by Hilton London City is about to bring new meaning to #LifeStyleTravel. We can’t wait to welcome you to experience our thoughtfully designed hotel – Opening tomorrow!”

The property features Penny Squares restaurant, which “weaves a story of the East End with Jewish and Middle Eastern flavours bringing people together over sharing plates from blazing clay ovens, evocative cocktails and a well-traveled wine list”.
Freedom Cafe offers coffee, lunches and workspace by day, and “cocktails, small plates, music & electric atmosphere by night”, while the “exclusive rooftop wonderland” Florattica (listed on the hotel’s website as “coming soon”) has been inspired by “17th century Huguenot silk weavers who made this area their home”.
The Canopy by Hilton brand was launched in 2014, with the first mainland Europe hotel opening in Zagreb in November 2018.
There are currently around 30 Canopy hotels open worldwide, with over 30 additional properties under development.
Recent openings include the Canopy by Hilton Madrid Castellana, Canopy Paris Trocadero, Canopy by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk, and Canopy by Hilton Sao Paulo Jardins.
Hilton also recently announced plans for its first Canopy property in the Seychelles.
