Hyatt has welcomed the Taoxichuan Hotel to its upmarket The Unbound Collection brand.

The 196-room hotel is located in downtown Jingdezhen, a city in China’s southern Jiangxi province which is known as the “porcelain capitol” for its legacy of ceramic craftsmanship.

Located a five-minute walk from Ceramic Art Avenue Taoxichuan, guests can experience the city’s centuries-old heritage and present-day ceramics in the museums, galleries, markets and shops. It is also a 25-minute drive from the Northern High Railway Station and Luojia airport, which offer connections to other key cities in the region.

The hotel occupies three interconnected buildings, with rooms designed by Britain’s David Chipperfield Architects. Rooms feature warm colours and earthy textures of wood, leather, canvas and ceramic tiles, while terracotta elements such as cobalt blue accents are inspired by traditional porcelain designs. There are also amenities and artisanal items crafted from ceramic, and private balconies provide city views.

Dining venues include authentic local and regional Chinese cuisine at Cobalt Restaurant, which features Jingdezhen’s cobalt blue and white porcelain and four private dining rooms with butler service, and the Emerald Lounge for light bites and afternoon tea.

Leisure facilities include an indoor heated pool and 24-hour fitness centre, while the hotel also offers 1,360 sqm of flexible event space which includes a ballroom and five meeting rooms.

The hotel offers a variety of activities inspired by the area such as courses on Song Dynasty tea art and ceramic-making lessons.

Stephen Ho, president of growth and operations for Asia Pacific at Hyatt, commented:

“We are delighted to expand The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in China with Taoxichuan Hotel, a modern retreat that pays tribute to the city’s heritage and craftsmanship in a thought-provoking, contemporary style.

“We look forward to welcoming guests and immerse them in story-worthy experiences within one of China’s most culturally inspiring destinations.”

The Unbound Collection comprises over 25 properties in the world, including European destinations such as the Great Scotland Yard Hotel in London, Hôtel du Louvre in Paris, Parisi Udvar Hotel in Budapest, Hotel Martinez in Cannes, Hotel du Palais Biarritz, and Hotel Sofia Barcelona. The brand also plans to début in Japan in 2022.
