Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air has announced plans for a new route between London Heathrow and Nice.

The four-times weekly service will operate on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays from September 16, with fares starting from £26.99 each way including taxes and charges.

The carrier will be joining an increasingly crowded market between London and Nice – Air France recently launched flights between Nice and Heathrow, and British Airways has established services to the south eastern French city from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City.

The carrier had also been due to offer seasonal flights from Southampton to Nice this summer, but it is understood these will now not operate until the summer of 2022.

Other routes between London and Nice include Easyjet from Gatwick and Luton, and Jet 2 and Ryanair from Stansted.

Commenting on the news Krassimir Tanev, chief commercial officer, Blue Air, said:

“We are happy and thrilled to announce Blue Air new direct service between London Heathrow and Nice, thus becoming the only ULC (ultra low-cost carrier) operating the route.

“French Riviera is a highly demanded product for our London customers and represents important development in Blue Air Network Strategy delivering best-in-class ultra-low cost airline experience to the benefit of our customers who can now enjoy more travel options at affordable prices”.

Blue Air operates from a number of Romanian cities to UK airports including Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and London Luton, including recently launched flights between Heathrow and Iasi, and established routes from the London hub to Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca.
