Emirates has announced plans to resume service to Glasgow next week, following the UK government’s decision to move the UAE from red to amber on the traffic light travel system.

A four times weekly service will initially operate from August 11 using a two-class B777-200LR aircraft.

Flight EK27 will depart Dubai at 0750 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving into Glasgow at 1245, with the return leg EK28 leaving the Scottish airport at 1435, landing back into Dubai at 0105 the following day. From September the route will increase to daily.

The UAE will move to the UK’s amber list at 0400 on Sunday August 8, removing the red-list requirement to quarantine in a government-approved hotel on arrival, and meaning that fully vaccinated travellers from the UK, EU and US will not have to self-isolate for ten days on arrival.

Emirates said it had seen a “huge surge” in queries following the UK’s decision, adding that it was “reviewing our operations to various points in the UK”.

Commenting on the news Mark Johnston, chief operating officer for AGS Airports Ltd, which owns Glasgow Airport, said:

“Emirates’ decision to restart the country’s busiest long-haul route is a significant step towards rebuilding Scotland’s vital connectivity and will be welcome news to our passengers.

“We are in the early stages of the safe restart of international travel, but there remains a long road ahead for aviation in the UK and the thousands of people employed within our industry.”
