Marriott International has debuted its luxury St Regis brand in the coastal city of Qingdao, located in China’s eastern Shandong province.
The St Regis Qingdao occupies floors 58-78 of the 369-metre tall Haitian Centre, making it the tallest hotel in the region. It features panoramic views of the Yellow Sea, and is located an hour’s drive from Qingdao Liuting International airport.
The hotel has been designed by Singapore-based firm LTW Designworks, and combines local Qingdao features with the hotel brand’s heritage. A grand staircase, for instance, acts as a venue for the St Regis tradition of sobering a bottle of champagne “to mark the transition from day to night”, while a 74-metre-high art wall in the atrium reflects the “delicate traces left on the beach by the ebb and flow of the Yellow Sea”.
The property features 233 rooms, each of which have a bedside backplate which features camellia motifs in homage to the official flower of Qingdao. The hotel also offers a butler service and five dining outlets.

The Drawing Room on the 59th floor offers afternoon tea, Yan Ting serves authentic Cantonese cuisine, Social provides all-day dining menus, and The Carvery offers “convivial dining in a classic New York steakhouse setting”. Meanwhile, the St Regis Bar serves the brand’s signature Bloody Mary with a twist, incorporating sparkling Qingdao beer, fresh local clams and fine sea-salt into the mix, and renaming it the GaLa Mary.
Further facilities include over 2,000 sqm of event space, a spa with five treatment rooms, a fitness centre and an indoor infinity pool.
Henry Lee, President, Greater China, Marriott International, commented:
“We are very excited to expand our luxury footprint to one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the region with the debut of the iconic St Regis brand, bringing bespoke experiences curated for the most discerning travellers.
“The opening of the St Regis Qingdao ushers in a new benchmark of luxury hospitality in this dynamic city and underscores our commitment to continuously grow in Eastern China.”
Jennie Toh, VP of Brand Marketing and Management, Asia Pacific, Marriott International, added:
“We are thrilled to celebrate the debut of The St Regis Qingdao. As one of the most important destinations for business and leisure travellers in China, Qingdao now has a most iconic luxury landmark.”
Marriott currently operates 45 luxury hotels and resorts under the St Regis brand.
