IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced plans for a property close to Austin Bergstrom International airport under its Atwell Suites brand.

An existing hotel is set to be converted into an 80-suite property featuring a two-storey lobby with The Common – the brand’s signature public space offering which “mixes private and shared areas to perfectly suit the transition from work to leisure”.

Facilities will include a pool and spa, a bar offering “shareable small plates”, and a free hotel shuttle to and from the airport.

Atwell Suites was launched in 2019, with the upper-midscale brand positioned somewhere between an extended-stay property and a select service hotel, and “optimized for longer stays of up to six nights”.

Atwell Suites Austin Airport will also be located close to the city’s new Oracle headquarters and the Tesla Gigafactory facility, as well as Circuit of The Americas sporting and events complex.

Commenting on the news Karen Gilbride, vice president, Avid hotels and Atwell Suites, IHG, said:

“As Austin continues to be a popular destination due to its eclectic music scene and culture, we are thrilled to partner with Bob and Son, Ltd as we transform their existing hotel property into one of our first Atwell Suites locations.

“The brand’s thoughtful and flexibly designed spaces can adapt for new build or conversion opportunities making this a strong offer that will appeal to owners and guests. We congratulate Bob and Son, Ltd and look forward to introducing guests to this new, exciting brand in Austin.”
