Air Canada is beginning to rebuild its route network to the US, with a summer schedule that includes 55 routes to 34 destinations.

The airline will offer up to 220 daily flights between the US and Canada, and aims to restore its services to all 57 US destinations “as conditions allow”. The summer schedule includes flights from airports in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary to US destinations such as Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas,  Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

The flag carrier says that its onboard services such as in-flight dining will resume on transborder flights greater than two hours in early August.

The new schedule will coincide with the easing of restrictions between the two countries on August 9, which will see fully vaccinated Americans able to enter Canada for non-essential travel. This will also include the removal of quarantine hotel requirements, and the relaxation of testing requirements.

The airline has also developed a digital solution to enable customers flying from the US to Canada, and between Canada and select European destinations, to scan, upload and validate Covid-19 test results to the Air Canada app prior to arriving at the airport.

Seats are currently on sale on the website. Air Canada’s current refund policy means that should a flight be cancelled or rescheduled by more than three hours, customers are entitled to a full refund, an Air Canada Travel Voucher, or the equivalent value in Aeroplan Points with a 65 per cent bonus.

The airline states that its commercial schedule “may be adjusted as required based on the Covid-19 trajectory and government restrictions”.

Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada, commented:

“The easing of travel restrictions announced today by the federal government is an important step based on science, and we are very pleased to rebuild our Canada-U.S. network. Canada and the United States share close ties and restoring air connectivity will contribute to both countries’ economic recovery.

“Air Canada’s proud tradition of being the largest foreign carrier in the U.S. is reflected in our schedule which has been developed to provide a wide range of choices for customers in both countries, appealing to Canadian customers interested in travelling to popular U.S. destinations, and to U.S. residents looking to visit and explore Canada’s spectacular sights and hospitality. Our schedule also enables convenient onward travel through our Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal hubs to and from our global destinations.”
