Whitbread has opened its fourth Scottish property this year, with the unveiling of the Premier Inn Thurso.

The 85-room hotel also has the distinction of being the group’s most northerly property, with its location on Scotland’s north coast, around 20 miles southwest of John O’Groats. The town is also a stop on the North Coast 500 route.

The hotel is located close to Thurso rail station, around half a mile walk from Thurso Beach, and features the group’s Thyme Bar and Grill restaurant.

The addition of the Thurso property means Premier Inn has added 566 rooms to its Scottish portfolio this year, including a 249-room hotel in Glasgow, a property in Hamilton (15 miles southeast of Glasgow), and a 136-room hotel on Princes Street in Edinburgh.

Whitbread said it was also “looking for new locations” in the Scottish destinations of Dunblane, Ballater, Callandar, the Isle of Skye and Largs.

Earlier this year Premier Inn outlined plans to add a total of 2,142 UK rooms across its Premier Inn and Hub by Premier Inn brands this summer, with 17 new or extended hotels set to be unveiled between May and August, equating to one new hotel per week.

Premier Inn to open one hotel per week over summer 2021

Commenting on the Thurso opening Richard Aldread, head of construction for Whitbread in the UK regions, said:

“Our guests have always sought out Premier Inn hotels for their leisure trips and holidays. Thurso adds another unique location to our network, and with many new Premier Inn’s opening in other adventure and leisure hotspots this year, we are able to offer our guests even more choice for their get-away or extended break.”
