Marriott has opened the 342-room Sheraton Mianyang in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan.

The hotel is situated in the Xianhai Scenic Area, and is the first property to feature Sheraton’s “new vision” which was first unveiled in 2019, when Business Traveller‘s Tom Otley travelled to the group’s Bethesda headquarters to find out more.

The future of Sheraton

The brand’s lobby space “has been re-imagined as the community hub of the hotel”, including a Community Table which Marriott describes as “an inviting, purpose-built workspace that anchors the hotel’s lobby and allow guests to work, eat, and drink while soaking up the energy of the space”.

The area also features “flexible gathering spaces” known as Studios, and smaller Booths which the group says are “perfect for a spontaneous phone call to connect privately with friends, family, or colleagues from afar”.

The new ‘&More by Sheraton’ lobby lounge is described as “part bar, part coffee bar, part market”, and there is also an all day dining buffet restaurant, Unspoken bar, and Yue Chinese restaurant with six private dining rooms overlooking Xianhai lake.

Rooms start from 41 sqm, and there is a Club Lounge for Marriott Bonvoy Elite members and Club level guests. For meetings the hotel has 1,200 sqm of events space, including an 800 sqm ballroom which is connected to an outdoor terrace.

Leisure facilities include a heated swimming pool, fitness centre, spa bath and sauna, and there is a forest-themed outdoor children’s playground and an indoor kids’ club.

Sheraton currently has over 80 properties operating in greater China, with two new openings in Xi’an scheduled for later this year. Worldwide the brand has over 440 properties in over 70 countries.

Commenting on the opening Amanda Nichols, Global Brand Leader, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, said:

“Sheraton Mianyang provides a living and breathing showcase of our new vision for Sheraton, underscoring our commitment to well position the brand to meet demand of today’s travellers.

“The new hotel is part of a global reinvention journey currently being undertaken by Sheraton Hotels and Resorts to bring all of its properties in line with the new vision, which will showcase the brand’s new focus on services and design that enable socialization, productivity, and personalization, featuring collaborative venues and technology that enable unique experiences.”
