Canterbury has welcomed a new Hampton by Hilton hotel located in its city centre.

The 129-room hotel is located within Canterbury City walls on St Margaret’s Street, a five-minute walk from the Canterbury Cathedral and the city’s high street.

The hotel is situated within an extensive redevelopment project by Slatters Development, and incorporates two listed buildings, retaining the property’s historic façade. Features include a glass panel in the reception area which showcase the remains of a Roman theatre beneath the hotel.

The hotel includes an onsite bar and restaurant, a meeting room for up to 12 people, and a 24-hour fitness centre. Guests staying at the hotel will also receive a complimentary breakfast and free wifi.

Nicholas Northam, executive vice president – international at Interstate Hotels and Resorts, which manages the hotel, said:

“We’re proud to officially open the Hampton by Hilton Canterbury, bringing the renowned brand to one of the UK’s most historically significant cities and creating new accommodation options for visitors, while paying homage to Canterbury’s rich cultural past throughout the property.”

Scott Jakins, general manager of the Hampton by Hilton Canterbury, added:

“We are so excited to be opening such an amazing hotel in the centre of Canterbury. We have been inundated with support from all over Kent and will no doubt be the hotel of choice for visitors to Canterbury once we open”

Hampton by Hilton currently counts around 100 properties in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, with recent openings in Munich, Manchester, and Madrid. It is also set to open a new-build hotel in Nuneaton.
