Marriott has added its second Tribute Portfolio hotel in Japan, with the opening of Hiyori Chapter Kyoto.

The property is located close to the city’s Kawaramachi-dori shopping street, and feature 203 rooms inspired by Japanese tea ceremonies, as well as all-day dining restaurant Matsunari for contemporary Western and Japanese dishes, a fitness centre and traditional Japanese public bath.

The hotel also has what is being referred to as “The Chapter Factory” in the lobby area, which Marriott describes as follows:

“Acting as the hotel concierge, the Chapter Factory showcases a selection of curated travel stories from local insiders and hotel staff for guests to discover the hidden gems of Kyoto through a local lens. Guests are also encouraged to share their travel stories in Kyoto by adding new chapters to the Chapter Factory.”

Hiyori Chapter Kyoto joins The Kiroro in Hokkaido as Japan’s second Tribute Portfolio property. The brand was launched in 2015 as a way of encouraging upscale independent hotels to join Marriott, and currently has over 50 properties open worldwide including the Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, which Business Traveller reviewed in 2018:
