Finnair introduces ‘Business Light’ ticket

Finnair is introducing a new ‘Business Light’ ticket and renewing its other ticket types from today.

Finnair originally brought in the different ticket types in March of 2020, and has previously introduced new fare types.

It now has three ticket types – Light, Classic and Flex – that are available for both Business and Economy Class for all short-haul and most intercontinental journeys.

The ticket types offer different levels of flexibility for making reservation changes – along with some additional services included in the ticket including the amount of miles earned in Finnair’s loyalty programme – Finnair Plus.

Business Light is a totally new ticket type, according to Finnair, and is available from today.

Business Light is described as being designed especially for leisure travellers who want to fly in business class but who travel ‘light’. This means that the Business Light ticket includes carry-on baggage only. In addition, it is a restricted ticket with no reservation changes, refunds, airport priority services, lounge access and onboard internet, although all of these are available for extra.

The Classic ticket allows ticket date changes and includes one piece of checked baggage. Customers can make travel date changes, paying the fare difference between the original and new tickets, but refunds are not possible for cancelations

The Flex ticket is a fully flexible and refundable ticket option, with the possibility of changing travel dates, paying the fare difference and the possibility of cancelling for a full refund. Flex tickets include checked baggage, advance seat reservation, and lounge access (see table above).

The changes are for tickets purchased from today’s date. Customers who purchased their tickets before June 15 will travel with their original tickets and the benefits that were included with them. In addition, due to the coronavirus situation.

“There is an increasing need to personalise the travel experience, and our new ticket types offer opportunities for choice and tailoring” says Ole Orvér, Chief Commercial Officer, Finnair. “We want to offer our customers journeys that look like them, and we will be adding more choice and personalisation opportunities to our offering as we re-introduce services and prepare for ramp-up of our operations.”
