Travelodge opened a total of seven properties in one day this week, as part of plans to open 17 hotels during 2021.

The budget chain has added two hotels in Bristol (Bristol Avonmouth and Bristol Emersons Green), as well as properties in Boston (Lincolnshire), Faringdon, Poole, St Albans and Witney.

The additions bring the group’s portfolio to 592 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

The news follows the recent rebranding of nine Travelodge properties under Accor’s Ibis offering, after owners exercised break clauses in their contracts following the budget hotel operator entering into a Company Voluntary Arrangement last summer.

Ibis Budget adds nine UK properties

This and other defections to brands including Premier Inn left Travelodge retaining 578 properties as of November last year.

The new openings include the group’s 12th Travelodge Plus property (St Albans), and the addition of four hotels featuring the brand’s Super Room product (Faringdon, St Albans and two properties in Bristol).

A further five Travelodge hotels are scheduled to open later this year – three in London (Elephant and Castle, Manor House and Peckham), as well as properties in Sandwich and Walton on Thames.

Commenting on the news Craig Bonnar, Travelodge chief executive said:

“We are delighted to mark the start of the summer holiday season by extending our UK hotel network by officially opening seven new hotels in one day and taking the Travelodge brand to four new markets.

“These seven new properties not only extend our UK network to 578 hotels but also offer even more great value choice to business and leisure customers whilst playing a pivotal role in supporting local economies.

“With more Britons holidaying on British shores this year, we are well placed to support the nation with their Staycation breaks by having hotels in the right locations at a great value price.”
