*****UPDATE: Wizz Air has cancelled both routes just when they were about to  launch.

In a statement to Business Traveller the airline said:

“Routes can sometimes change according to travel seasons and demand. Unfortunately for these reasons, Wizz Air confirms it has had to suspend its routes from Cardiff and Doncaster to Jersey. Passengers with bookings will be contacted and refunded 120 per cent of the original fare in airline credit. Passengers can also opt for 100 per cent cash refund.  Wizzair sincerely apologies for any inconvenience caused.”*****

Until now Wizz Air has operated only international flights from the UK.

But this week came news that nimble Wizz Air seeks new opportunities by starting flights to Jersey from both Cardiff and Doncaster.

As we reported last December this low-cost airline was to open a new base at Cardiff effective March 2021.

Wizz Air to launch new base at Cardiff airport

However the pandemic meant these plans were postponed to this summer.

And yesterday Wizz Air announced it will be adding another Cardiff route – this time to Jersey.

Flights will operate every Monday and Friday from July 9 to September 6, with the following schedules:

  • Departs Cardiff at 1550, arrives into Jersey at 1640
  • Departs Jersey at 1420, arrives into Cardiff at 1515

At the same time a further route, linking Doncaster to Jersey, will operate during the above period.

Schedules for these Monday and Friday flights are:

  • Departs Doncaster at 1235, arrives into Jersey at 1345
  • Departs Jersey at 1715, arrives into Doncaster at 1825

The same Doncaster-based aircraft is deployed for all the above flights.

A reminder to readers – always check schedules in advance in case of alterations during these unusual times.
