Eurotunnel Le Shuttle has partnered with testing provider Prenetics to offer discounts on Covid-19 tests for “stress-free travels to Europe”.

Customers travelling with Eurotunnel will receive exclusive discounts on pre-departure and arrival Covid-19 PCR tests. There is the option to buy home test kits via the Eurotunnel website, or to visit one of Prenetics’ 20 ‘test pod’ locations across the UK.

The home test kits will include step-by-step guidance, and customers can return their sample via a return envelope to a Prenetics lab. Both options return results within 24 hours of receipt at the lab.

To enter France from the UK, travellers over the age of 11 need proof of a negative result from a PCR test taken in the previous 72 hours. With the discount, the pre-departure PCR Fit to Travel home test kits cost £57, and the in-person tests cost £104.50. There is no testing facility at the Eurotunnel site, and customers will not be allowed onto the shuttle without proof of a negative PCR test result.

France, however, is still on the UK government’s ‘amber’ list, meaning that travellers returning to the UK will need to quarantine for ten days and take PCR tests on days two and eight, with the option of reducing the quarantine by testing on day five.

The Folkestone-Calais shuttle operator has therefore also given travellers the opportunity to purchase tests for returning to England. These include the day two and eight tests at £155.80, and the Test to Release kit at £93.10. An in-person PCR test for day two, five or eight costs £104.50.

To purchase the tests from Project Screen (Prenetics’ platform), customers will need to provide travel details, passport number and vaccination details.

Eurotunnel said that it is currently experiencing an increase in bookings and that it hopes that France will be included in the UK government’s ‘green’ list “by the main summer holiday period”. The company adds that “customers barely need to leave the safe bubble of their own car if they choose not to” on the 35-minute crossing from Folkestone to Calais.

Note that if your final destination is not France, then you must consider the testing requirements in your final destination.

Deborah Merrens, Chief Commercial Officer at Eurotunnel said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer our customers a straightforward way to meet the current testing requirements. We know that whilst holidaymakers are desperate to get away, safety is paramount and our collaboration with Prenetics makes the testing process as stress free as possible. Ensuring that testing procedures are clear and tests are easily obtainable will be key to instilling consumer confidence in travel this summer. Travelling on Eurotunnel Le Shuttle means that passengers stay in the comfort of their own car and are not mixing with other holidaymakers.”

Avi Lasarow, CEO of Prenetics UK, the health diagnostics business, added:

“We are delighted to be working with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle which completes our frontage in the international travel sector. Covid-19 testing for travellers is going to be necessary for the medium to long term and Prenetics offers one of the most comprehensive and competitive testing packages in the market today, helping us all makes steps back to normal life.”
