Premier Inn is pushing forward with plans to open 2,500 rooms in Dublin’s city centre, with three hotels currently under construction and a total of five properties in the pipeline.

The budget chain operates a hotel in the Airside Retail Park to the north of Dublin airport, but its first city centre property will open on South George Street in September.

This will be followed by hotels on Gloucester Street and Newmarket in 2022 and 2023 reswpectively, both of which are now under construction.

Premier Inn also has secured two other Dublin city centre locations including a flagship 262-room docklands hotel at Castleforbes, and a 206-room development on Jervis Street.

The group said that it was responding to “a recognised undersupply of branded budget hotel accommodation in the city”, adding that “The expansion of Premier Inn in Ireland is part of Whitbread’s strategy of growing its hugely popular Premier Inn brand internationally”.

“We see enormous potential for Premier Inn in Dublin and it feels great to be on site and working closely with our development partners to progress our pipeline of city centre hotels following the return to full construction activity in early May,” said Matt Gent, development manager for Premier Inn in Ireland.

“With a gradual easing of lockdown measures planned for the summer, and our first hotel in Dublin city centre opening this autumn at South Great George’s Street, I am hopeful we will be able to explore new locations for Premier Inn in the city and grow our network in Dublin further.”

This week Premier Inn unveiled plans to add a total of 2,142 UK rooms across its Premier Inn and Hub by Premier Inn brands this summer.

A total of 17 new or extended hotels are set to be unveiled between May and August, equating to one new hotel per week.
