Play, an Icelandic budget airline, is set to launch flights from London Stansted to Reykjavik on June 24.

Initial schedules will be four flights a week every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Depending on demand there may be daily flights in the future.

Play will deploy a 192-seat Airbus 321neo aircraft.  It says a further two such aircraft will join the fleet in July.

This is a new airline. Lead-in fares are from £30 one-way which, when you consider this price includes taxes, fees and charges, means that base fare is low.

However there is a list of ancillary fees and these may increase the final price you pay.

Mr Birgir Jonsson, CEO of Play, said, “It’s brilliant to open up Iceland to UK travellers and offer competitive fares now that international travel has resumed.”

Besides the UK, Play will also be operating to several destinations in mainland Europe.

Aviation schedule analyst SEANM1997 has tweeted Play’s European network plus flight frequency.

At the time of writing Iceland is placed on the UK’s Green List.

Readers considering using Play from any of the other above European destinations must check for any applicable restrictions, health requirements and so on.
