Hospitality firm Whitbread says it will add a total of 2,142 UK rooms across its Premier Inn and Hub by Premier Inn brands this summer.

A total of 17 new or extended hotels are set to be unveiled between May and August, equating to one new hotel per week.

New UK coastal locations include Blackpool (North Pier), Bournemouth and Thurso, and its Scarborough South Bay property is set to be expanded by 90 rooms.

Premier Inn will also open a hotel in Bury St Edmunds in late May, following the conversion of the property from a Travelodge.

Commenting on the news Mark Anderson, managing director for property and international at Whitbread, said:

“We are investing to win this financial year as we recover from the pandemic and continue to grow and innovate our market leading brands.

“The seventeen new and extended hotels we are opening this summer will bring our best product to many of the UK’s most popular cities and leisure destinations – locations where we expect strong, long-term demand for our affordable hotel rooms.

“They are one part of the way in which we are enhancing our customer proposition alongside investments in our existing estate, digital marketing and sustainability initiatives.”

Premier Inn is also continuing to roll out its premium Premier Plus rooms concept, with “hundreds” more rooms being converted in the coming months.
