Melia Hotels International has opened its seventh property in China, located in the southwestern city of Chongqing.

Business Traveller first reported on plans for Melia Chongqing way back in 2012, with the 230-room hotel situated within the Tieshanping Forest Park, around 30 minutes from downtown Chongqing.

Rooms start from 45 sqm and have balconies with views of the forest park, while other facilities include Yhi Spa with indoor and outdoor heated pools, and six food and beverage options including Chinese and Spanish restaurants.

The property also houses a convention centre with 6,200 sqm of events space including a pillarless ballroom, and guests can opt to upgrade to Melia’s signature The Level programme, offering access to an executive lounge, as well as upgraded amenities and butler service.

The group recently announced plans to open its second Innside hotel in the country.

Commenting on the news Mr. Bernardo Cabot, area managing director China, Melia Hotels International, said:

“We are delighted to unveil Melia Chongqing, which marks the seventh property of the group in China.

“We are proud to bring Melia Hotels and Resorts brand into historical and cultural Chongqing. Chongqing is a city with warmth and passion, and Melia’s Mediterranean roots give us our natural Spanish warmth and spontaneity: fundamental in creating the Melia experience.

“When Spanish warmth meets Chongqing’s passion, we believe that Melia Chongqing will be a beautiful result of cultural integration.”
