Scandinavian Airlines is to launch a new seasonal route between London Heathrow and the Swedish city of Lulea this winter.

Twice weekly flights (Mondays and Fridays) will operate to the coastal city in Swedish Lapland between December 17, 2021 and March 21, 2022.

The new route will be the only direct, nonstop service between Lulea and the UK.

SAS said that the route would attract both UK-based customers looking to visit the Swedish Lapland region, and travellers from the north of Sweden visiting London for weekend trips.

Lulea is the capital of Norrbotten County, Sweden’s northernmost county, and in 2013 became home to Facebook’s first datacentre outside the US.

Commenting on the news Theres Briger, head of sales, Sweden, SAS, said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer a route with an attractive timetable connecting Lulea, and the rest of North of Sweden, to London.

“Interest in Northern Scandinavia is continuously increasing as travellers seek new and more experiences in the nature. Several tour operators and travel agents have already expressed interest in the new route.

“London is also the largest European market for many businesses and this route will enable growth in Northern Swede.”
