American Airlines is introducing new amenity kits for premium cabin passengers on international and transcontinental flights.
Detroit-based luxury brand Shinola, known for creating world-class watches and leather goods, has crafted the amenity kit bags exclusively for AA. Wrapped in sustainable packaging, the amenity kits are designed to “be repurposed post-flight to collect keepsakes or organise essentials for future journeys”.
The kits will include lip balms and lotions by New York-based fragrance company DS and Durga, featuring scents such as Rose Atlantic, which is inspired by summers on the New England coast and features aromas of wild rose and the slaty sea, and Radio Bombay, which is described “as a journey to the ol’ days of Mumbai” with “the blooms of musk, cream, peach, ambrette, coco and cedar distillates”.
The kits also include items such as socks, dental kits, mouthwash, earplugs, sleep masks, tissues and pens.
The amenity kits are available to passengers in Flagship First, Flagship Business, and premium economy classes on flights operating between the US and London, which includes services to London Heathrow from Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Charlotte, North Carolina, New York City, Philadelphia and Seattle. They will be rolled out across other long-haul international and transcontinental flights throughout the summer.
As part of the airline’s partnership with Shinola, the brand is also creating a series of 1,000 limited edition desk clocks featuring a dial made entirely from the original metal of American’s retired fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft. The MD-80 carried customers for over 35 years before retiring in 2019. Each dial is unique and bears small markings from the aircraft’s decades of services. Customers can purchase an MD-80 desk clock with or without a vintage American Airlines logo at the airline’s online shop.
Shinola wall clocks will also be featured in select Admirals Club lounges later this summer. American Airlines is gradually reopening more of its Admirals Club lounges, as demand for flights increases.
Clarissa Sebastian, Managing Director of Premium Customer Experience and Onboard Products, commented:
“American often seeks brands that are rooted in creativity, especially those that celebrate travel before, during and after the actual journey. D.S. & Durga and Shinola underscore what we value in our partners at American — the ability to inspire connection with people or places that matter and experiences that enrich us.”
