Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued a new advisory for Covid-19 testing during this ongoing second wave of the pandemic in India.

As per the new guidelines, RT-PCR test must not be repeated for any individual who has tested positive once either by RAT or RT-PCR.

In addition, ICMR has recommended that recovered individuals who get discharged from hospitals will not require another round of testing, in accordance with the discharge policy of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

โ€œThe need for RT PCR test in healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel may be completely removed to reduce the load on laboratories,โ€ said ICMR. However, it added that non-essential travel or inter-state travel of symptomatic individuals (Covid-19 or flu-like symptoms) should be essentially avoided.

All asymptomatic individuals undertaking essential travel need to follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
